"Haverhill Youth Band" was reformed in 2002 by Theresa Jones. Theresa secured a grant from the National Lottery to buy several new instruments and, during the next two years, she built up a nucleus of loyal players who still form the basis of the present band which now numbers around 30 players.
In Theresa 2004 Theresa decided to concentrate on her new family (her husband, Kevin, plays for the Silver Band). At that time Diane Pannell took over and the numbers continued to grow. Often when young players came to the band they were accompanied by parents who were foolish enough to remark that they had enjoyed playing in brass bands themselves when they were younger. A few minutes later they had an instrument in their hands and were playing again! Within a few months there were enough of these adults, forming an integral part of activities, for the committee to decide to rename the band "Haverhill Youth and Community Band".
The aim of this band is to train players to the standard where they can join the senior band and so maintain the long tradition and high standard of brass playing in Haverhill.
We also, however, hope to give all the players an enthusiasm for playing and for brass bands that they can take with them wherever they go.
